Quebec Tourism Region : Outaouais
English Version
Origin and meaning
The township of Aunis is located approximately 25 km southwest of Maniwaki. Irrigated to the southeast by the Aigle River, a tributary of the Gatineau, and by other small streams, such as Dan and Doyle Creeks, its rugged terrain undulates between 213 m, at its lowest point near Mooney Lake, in the north, and approximately 365 m near a road leading to Dépôt-de-l'Aigle.
"Aunis" is a name borrowed from a former province of France located between Poitou and Saintonge and whose capital was La Rochelle. This province was one of those that provided the most immigrants to New France until 1760, nearly 700. Proclamation: 1966.
