Origin and meaning

The name of this uninhabited township, located southwest of Maniwaki, recalls the memory of Monsignor Arthur Béliveau, born in Valmont (Champlain) in 1870 and died in 1955 in Saint-Boniface.

With the exception of his theological studies in Montreal, then in Rome where he obtained his doctorate in theology, his career was entirely spent in Saint-Boniface, where he became archbishop in 1915.

He was the inspiration behind the founding of the French-Canadian Education Association of Manitoba. Proclamation: 1966.

Le nom de ce canton inhabité, situé au sud-ouest de Maniwaki, rappelle le souvenir de monseigneur Arthur Béliveau, né à Valmont (Champlain) en 1870 et décédé en 1955 à Saint-Boniface.

À l'exception de ses études théologiques faites à Montréal, puis à Rome où il obtint son doctorat en théologie, sa carrière s'est entièrement déroulée à Saint-Boniface dont il devint l'archevêque en 1915.

Il fut l'inspirateur de la fondation de l'Association canadienne-française d'éducation du Manitoba. Proclamation : 1966.
