Origin and meaning

This small town in Eardley Township, in the municipality of Pontiac, is named after Robert Breckenridge, the area's first postmaster (1872–1877). It was originally known as Heyworth before the name Breckenridge was adopted, which also designated a small railway station. In addition, the hamlet gave its name to a nearby bay on the Ottawa River. Breckenridge is located about twenty kilometers northwest of Hull.

Cette petite agglomération du canton d'Eardley, dans la municipalité de Pontiac, porte le nom de Robert Breckenridge, premier maître de poste de l'endroit (1872-1877). Elle fut connue originellement sous le nom de Heyworth avant que ne soit adoptée l'appellation de Breckenridge, qui a également désigné une petite gare ferroviaire. De plus, le hameau a donné son nom à une baie voisine, sur la rivière des Outaouais. Breckenridge se trouve à une vingtaine de kilomètres au nord-ouest de Hull.
