Origin and meaning

Located between Fort-Coulonge and Bryson in the northern Outaouais region, the agricultural community of Campbell's Bay takes its name, which has identified the local post office since 1888, from a pretty bay on the Ottawa River that it borders, formerly known as Baie de Campbell's Bay and today as Lac à Campbell. Its name comes from the surname of a former citizen, Donald Campbell. This former soldier in a Scottish regiment had received a vast expanse of land at this location in gratitude for his services. A village municipality created in 1904 following its detachment from Litchfield, which became a municipality in 2003, this community has been considered the administrative center of Pontiac since 1926, a title it took from Bryson. It is home to the headquarters of the Pontiac MRC.

Située entre Fort-Coulonge et Bryson dans le nord de l'Outaouais, l'agglomération agricole de Campbell's Bay tire son nom, qui identifie le bureau de poste local depuis 1888, d'une jolie baie de la rivière des Outaouais, qu'elle longe, jadis identifiée comme Baie de Campbell's Bay et aujourd'hui comme Lac à Campbell. Son nom provient du patronyme d'un ancien citoyen, Donald Campbell. Cet ancien soldat d'un régiment écossais avait reçu une vaste étendue de terre à cet endroit en remerciement de ses services. Municipalité de village créée en 1904, par suite de son détachement de Litchfield, devenue municipalité en 2003, cette agglomération est considérée comme le centre administratif du Pontiac depuis 1926, titre qu'elle a ravi à Bryson. On y retrouve le siège de la MRC de Pontiac.
