Origin and meaning

Taking its name from a residential area in the suburbs of London, in Surrey, the township of Esher, already drawn on the Gale and Duberger map (1795), is bounded to the southwest by the Ottawa River, which drains the Schyan River in the center and Indian Creek to the west. It is located 30 km northwest of Chapeau. In some marshy areas, its fairly rugged terrain is watered notably by Dufoe and Esher lakes, as well as by part of Bird Lake. From the hamlet of Schyan Point, located at the confluence of the Schyan River and the Ottawa River, and towards the north, the terrain rises gradually from 121 to 411 m. Proclamation: 1902. Empruntant son nom à une agglomération résidentielle de la banlieue de Londres, dans le Surrey, le canton d'Esher, déjà tracé sur la carte de Gale et Duberger (1795), est limité au sud-ouest par la rivière des Outaouais, qui draine la rivière Schyan au centre et le ruisseau de l'Indien à l'ouest. On le retrouve à 30 km au nord-ouest de Chapeau. À certains endroits marécageux, son terrain assez accidenté est arrosé notamment par les lacs Dufoe et Esher, de même que par une partie du lac à l'Oiseau. Du hameau de Schyan Point, situé à la confluence de la rivière Schyan et de la rivière des Outaouais, et en direction du nord, le terrain s'élève graduellement de 121 à 411 m. Proclamation : 1902.
