Origin and meaning

The hamlet of Farley is located in the municipality of Messines, at the northern end of Blue Sea Lake, on the route between Hull and Maniwaki, in the Outaouais region. This resort area is mainly frequented by people from the National Capital Region. The local post office, opened in 1923, as well as the train station, adopted the name Farley, which commemorates the first inhabitant established there in the late 19th century. A few Farley families still live in Messines.

Origine et signification

Le hameau de Farley se trouve dans la municipalité de Messines, située à l'extrémité nord du lac Blue Sea, sur le parcours de la route reliant Hull à Maniwaki, dans la région de l'Outaouais. Ce site de villégiature est surtout fréquenté par les gens de la région de la Capitale nationale. Le bureau de poste de l'endroit, ouvert en 1923, ainsi que la gare ont adopté le nom de Farley qui rappelle le souvenir du premier habitant établi dans ce lieu, à la fin du XIXe siècle. Quelques familles Farley habitent encore Messines.
