Origin and meaning

This hamlet, which belongs to the municipality of L'Ange-Gardien, about fifteen kilometers north of Buckingham in the Outaouais region, is located on the east bank of the Lièvre River. Irish and Scottish settlers settled here in the second half of the 19th century. The local post office, in operation from 1886 to 1970, was named Glen Almond. The word glen is of Celtic origin and means narrow valley or small valley. The Almond family name, still well known in the region, may explain this place name.

Ce hameau qui appartient à la municipalité de L'Ange-Gardien, à une quinzaine de kilomètres au nord de Buckingham, dans la région de l'Outaouais, est situé sur la rive est de la rivière du Lièvre. Des Irlandais et des Écossais se sont établis à cet endroit, dans la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle. Le bureau de poste local, en service de 1886 à 1970, a pris le nom de Glen Almond. Le mot glen est d'origine celtique et signifie vallée étroite ou petite vallée. Le nom de famille Almond, encore bien connu dans la région, doit expliquer ce toponyme.
