Origin and meaning

This hamlet is part of the municipality of Blue Sea, located south of the lake of the same name, on the route of a road linking the cities of Hull and Maniwaki, in the Outaouais region. The arrival of the railway connecting these two cities at the beginning of the century gave rise to numerous small towns built on the right shore of Blue Sea Lake. This region, known as a resort center, was frequented mainly by residents of the Capital Region of Canada during the first half of the 20th century.

The toponym Gravelle evokes the memory of the first resident of the hamlet. This surname is very common in the region. The old train station there, built at the beginning of the century, was called Fortin-Gravelle.

Origine et signification

Ce hameau fait partie de la municipalité de Blue Sea, située au sud du lac du même nom, sur le parcours d'une route reliant les villes de Hull et de Maniwaki, dans la région de l'Outaouais. L'avènement du chemin de fer reliant ces deux villes au début du siècle a donné naissance à de nombreuses petites agglomérations érigées sur la rive droite du lac Blue Sea.

Cette région, reconnue comme centre de villégiature, était fréquentée surtout par des résidents de la région de la Capitale du Canada, durant la première moitié du XXe siècle. Le toponyme Gravelle évoque la mémoire du premier résident du hameau. Ce nom de famille est très répandu dans la région.

L'ancienne gare de l'endroit, érigée au début du siècle, s'appelait Fortin-Gravelle.
