Origin and meaning

This hamlet is located west of the Saint-Sixte River, north of Lac en Cœur. Its name was made official on February 9, 1960, by the Commission de géographie, now the Commission de toponymie; it identified the hamlet as early as 1894, where a post office was located, which was permanently closed in 1953.

According to geographer Ludger Beauregard, in his toponymic study of the Outaouais region in 1968, the name of the hamlet evokes the town of Jarnac, in Charente, where the Duke of Anjou defeated Gaspard de Châtillon, Lord of Coligny, and Louis de Condé on November 13, 1569. The latter was assassinated at the end of this battle.
