Origin and meaning

This township, located 45 km from Hull and a few kilometers from Gatineau Park, in the La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality (RCM), is bordered to the east by the Gatineau River and Lake Sainte-Marie. Its territory is bathed by a multitude of bodies of water, the most notable of which are the lakes of Île, Doyle, Cameron, and Venosta.

The municipality of the township of Low, officially established in 1857, almost two years before the township was proclaimed, occupies a large part of this territory developed by foresters, in particular by the important timber merchant, Charles Adamson Low, around 1832-1837. Proclamation: 1859.

Ce canton sis à 45 km de Hull, à quelques kilomètres du parc de la Gatineau, dans la MRC de La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, est borné à l'est par la rivière Gatineau et le lac Sainte-Marie. Son territoire est baigné par une multitude de plans d'eau dont les plus notables sont les lacs de l'Île, à Doyle, Cameron et Venosta.

La municipalité du canton de Low, érigée officiellement en 1857, soit près de deux ans avant la proclamation du canton, occupe une grande partie de ce territoire mis en valeur par des forestiers, en particulier par l'important marchand de bois, Charles Adamson Low, vers 1832-1837.
