Origin and meaning

Hamlet located in the Fifth Range of the Bristol Township Municipality, 55 km west of Hull, in the Outaouais region. The former post office, in operation from 1888 to 1969, was named Maryland after Mary Smith, owner of a general store there. At the beginning of the century, a small railway station of the same name served this place, which is now reduced to a few families.

Origine et signification

Hameau situé dans le Cinquième Rang de la municipalité du canton de Bristol, à 55 km à l'ouest de Hull, dans l'Outaouais. L'ancien bureau de poste en service de 1888 à 1969, a pris le nom de Maryland d'après Mary Smith, propriétaire d'un magasin général à cet endroit. Au début du siècle, une petite gare ferroviaire du même nom desservait ce lieu qui est aujourd'hui réduit à quelques familles.
