Origin and meaning

Halfway between Hull and Maniwaki, in the Outaouais region, lies this hamlet, which is part of the municipality of Northfield. It owes its name to pioneer Michael McBean, a logger of Scottish origin but born in Ontario, who purchased over 243 hectares of land in the First and Second Ranges of Northfield Township between 1859 and 1872. From 1904 to 1938, a post office served the few families established in McBean.

Origine et signification

À mi-chemin entre Hull et Maniwaki, dans la région de l'Outaouais, se trouve ce hameau qui se rattache à la municipalité de Northfield. Il doit son nom au pionnier Michael McBean, exploitant forestier, d'origine écossaise mais né en Ontario, qui acheta plus de 243 ha de terrain dans les Premier et Deuxième Rangs du canton de Northfield entre 1859 et 1872. De 1904 à 1938, un bureau de poste a desservi les quelques familles établies à McBean.
