Origin and meaning

Point Comfort, a hamlet in the municipality of Northfield, in the Outaouais region, is located about 30 km southeast of Maniwaki, on a strip of land separating Lake Pemichangan and Lake Trente-et-Un Milles. The Gatineau Fishing Game Club, formerly the Gatineau Hunting and Fishing Club, is based at Point Comfort. In the late 19th century, this renowned club was a favorite place of rest and comfort for many American politicians, hence the reason for its designation.

Point Comfort, hameau de la municipalité de Northfield, en Outaouais, se trouve à quelque 30 km au sud-est de Maniwaki, sur une bande de terre séparant les lacs Pemichangan et des Trente et Un Milles. Le Club de chasse et de pêche de la Gatineau, autrefois le Gatineau Fishing Game Club, est établi à Point Comfort. À la fin du XIXe siècle, ce club renommé constituait un lieu de repos et de confort privilégié pour de nombreux hommes politiques américains, d'où le motif d'attribution de cette désignation.
