Origin and meaning

This ecological reserve was created by decree of the Ministry of the Environment on June 9, 1993, and covers an area of 4.5 km². This reserve is located on the east side of the Gatineau River and approximately 45 km northwest of the city of Gatineau. Its name commemorates André Michaux (Versailles, 1746 - Madagascar, 1803), horticulturist and botanist. The establishment of this ecological reserve aims to protect ecosystems representative of the deciduous forest in the ecological region of Lower Gatineau. It is part of the domain of the maple-lime stand and the maple-yellow birch stand.

Origine et signification

Cette réserve écologique a été créée par décret du ministère de l'Environnement le 9 juin 1993 et couvre une superficie de 4,5 km². Cette réserve est située du côté est de la rivière Gatineau et à environ 45 km au nord-ouest de la ville de Gatineau. Son nom rappelle le souvenir d'André Michaux (Versailles, 1746 - Madagascar, 1803), horticulteur et botaniste. L'établissement de cette réserve écologique vise la protection d'écosystèmes représentatifs de la forêt de feuillus dans la région écologique de la Basse-Gatineau. Elle fait partie du domaine de l'érablière à tilleul et de l'érablière à bouleau jaune.
