Origin and meaning

Southwest of the ZEC Saint-Patrice, we find this ecological reserve, located on the banks of the Ottawa River and on the border of the townships of Malakoff and Esher; it covers an area of 324 ha. Its name is taken from the Indian Creek which runs for a length of nearly 10 km from Lake Farrell. Established by decree on May 8, 1991 with the aim of preserving "this territory in its natural state" and reserving it for scientific research and education, the reserve also aims to preserve a sample of mature white pine and red pine forest and to safeguard endangered animal and plant species.

Origine et signification

Au sud-ouest de la ZEC Saint-Patrice, on trouve cette réserve écologique, située en bordure de la rivière des Outaouais et à la limite des cantons de Malakoff et d'Esher; elle couvre une superficie de 324 ha. Son appellation reprend celle du ruisseau de l'Indien qui court sur une longueur de près de 10 km depuis le lac Farrell. Établie par décret le 8 mai 1991 dans le but de conserver « ce territoire à l'état naturel » et de le réserver pour la recherche scientifique et l'éducation, la réserve vise en outre à préserver un échantillonnage de forêt mature de pin blanc et de pin rouge et à sauvegarder des espèces animales et végétales menacées de disparition.
