Origin and meaning

A small municipality in the Outaouais region, Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau is located between Déléage and Bouchette, a short distance southeast of Maniwaki, in the central part of the MRC of La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau. It partly takes its name from the parish of Sainte-Thérèse-de-l'Enfant-Jésus, established in 1934, a name that evokes the famous nun Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus (1873-1897), who died in her early youth from a lung disease. Her paternal home, called Les Buissonnets, and the Carmelite convent where she died continually attract many pilgrims to Lisieux. The addition of Gatineau highlights the geographical location of the area and the nearby presence of the Gatineau River. Established in 1946, this municipality is characterized by the presence of numerous bodies of water on its territory: Beaulieu, Marcelin, and Michel lakes, and the Grand Lac Rond in particular. Petite municipalité de la région de l'Outaouais, Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau s'insère entre Déléage et Bouchette, à peu de distance au sud-est de Maniwaki, dans la partie centrale de la MRC de La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau. Elle tire partiellement son appellation de la paroisse de Sainte-Thérèse-de-l'Enfant-Jésus érigée en 1934, nom qui évoque la célèbre religieuse sainte Thérèse de l'Enfant-Jésus (1873-1897), fauchée en pleine jeunesse par une maladie pulmonaire. La maison paternelle appelée Les Buissonnets et le Carmel où elle décéda attirent sans cesse de nombreux pèlerins à Lisieux. L'ajout de Gatineau souligne la situation géographique des lieux et la présence, à proximité, de la rivière Gatineau. Érigée en 1946, cette municipalité est caractérisée par la présence de nombreux plans d'eau sur son territoire : lacs Beaulieu, Marcelin, Michel et le Grand lac Rond notamment.
