An immediate neighbor of Bowman, to the west, on the banks of the Lièvre River, Val-des-Bois is located 47 km north of Buckingham, between Lac-des-Écorces and Mulgrave-et-Derry, in Outaouais. The territory, dotted with lakes (Écho, de l'Argile, de l'Aqueduc, Vert, Delphis), occupies the northwest part of the MRC of Papineau.

It was in 1883 that the history of Val-des-Bois began with the founding of the parish of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, whose canonical and civil erection took place in 1908. On the municipal level, the year 1885 marked the creation of the municipality of the united townships of Bowman-et-Villeneuve. The two components of this name evoke townships, proclaimed in 1861 and 1873 respectively.

The first recalls the memory of Baxter Bowman, one of the original settlers and first entrepreneurs of the Outaouais, concessionaire of a logging operation in the region. The second celebrates the memory of Father Léonard-Vincent-Léon Villeneuve (1808-1873), Sulpician, professor at the Petit Séminaire de Montréal (1838-1846) and parish priest of Oka from 1871 to 1873.

In 1913, the township of Bowman was detached from the municipality of the united townships to form the municipality of the township of Bowman, while the municipality of the township of Villeneuve took, in 1958, the name of Val-des-Bois, already borne by the post office since 1878. The beautiful forest that adorned the banks of the Lièvre River will be the ideal source to motivate this choice of name. The main local economic activity is based on tourism.

Voisine immédiate de Bowman, à l'ouest, sur les bords de la rivière du Lièvre, Val-des-Bois est située à 47 km au nord de Buckingham, entre Lac-des-Écorces et Mulgrave-et-Derry, en Outaouais. Le territoire, pailleté de lacs (Écho, de l'Argile, de l'Aqueduc, Vert, Delphis), occupe la partie nord-ouest de la MRC de Papineau. C'est en 1883 que l'histoire de Val-des-Bois commence avec la fondation de la paroisse de Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, dont l'érection tant canonique que civile s'effectuera en 1908.

Sur le plan municipal, l'année 1885 marque la création de la municipalité des cantons unis de Bowman-et-Villeneuve. Les deux composantes de cette appellation évoquent des cantons, respectivement proclamés en 1861 et en 1873. Le premier rappelle le souvenir de Baxter Bowman, l'un des colons d'origine et des premiers entrepreneurs de l'Outaouais, concessionnaire d'une coupe forestière dans la région. Le second célèbre la mémoire du père Léonard-Vincent-Léon Villeneuve (1808-1873), sulpicien, professeur au Petit Séminaire de Montréal (1838-1846) et curé d'Oka de 1871 à 1873.

En 1913, le canton de Bowman sera détaché de la municipalité de cantons unis pour former la municipalité du canton de Bowman, alors que la municipalité du canton de Villeneuve prendra, en 1958, le nom de Val-des-Bois, déjà porté par le bureau de poste depuis 1878. La belle forêt qui ornait les bords de la rivière du Lièvre constituera la source toute désignée pour motiver ce choix dénominatif. La principale activité économique locale repose sur le tourisme.
