Origin and meaning
The territory of this municipality, which occupies an area of more than 455 km² in the northeastern part of the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais, is dotted with a myriad of lakes, the most important of which are McGregor, Grand, de l'Écluse, and Newcombe lakes. It is located northeast of Hull.

Val-des-Monts, which was created in 1975, resulted from the merger of the municipalities of Wakefield-Partie-Est (1893), Portland-Partie-Ouest (1907), which became Portland-Ouest in 1953, and Perkins (1960), formerly Templeton-Nord (1909). This descriptive name contrasts sharply with those of the cantons that originally designated the constituent municipalities: Wakefield, proclaimed in 1843, recalls a town in Yorkshire, England; Portland (1841) a municipality in the county of Dorset; and Templeton (1807) an English village. As for Perkins, this name evokes John Adams Perkins, who built a sawmill in 1845 on this territory, at the time of the beginning of the settlement.

Le territoire de cette municipalité, qui occupe une superficie de plus de 455 km² dans la partie nord-est de la MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais, est parsemé d'une myriade de lacs dont les plus importants demeurent les lacs McGregor, Grand, de l'Écluse et Newcombe. Elle se situe au nord-est de Hull.

Val-des-Monts, dont la création remonte à 1975, résulte de la fusion des municipalités de Wakefield-Partie-Est (1893), Portland-Partie-Ouest (1907), devenue Portland-Ouest en 1953, et Perkins (1960), antérieurement Templeton-Nord (1909). Cette dénomination descriptive tranche singulièrement avec celles des cantons à l'origine des désignations des municipalités constituantes : Wakefield, proclamé en 1843, rappelle une ville du Yorkshire en Angleterre ; Portland (1841) une municipalité du comté de Dorset ; et Templeton (1807) un village anglais. Quant à Perkins, ce nom évoque John Adams Perkins qui bâtit une scierie en 1845 sur ce territoire, époque du début du peuplement.
