Origin and meaning
Located less than 70 km north-northwest of Hull, the township of Wright is watered by the Gatineau River, which borders it to the east, and by numerous lakes bearing the following names, among others: des Îles, Profond, Perreault, Paquin, du Castor Blanc. They spread over a rugged, varied and relatively low territory, which does not exceed 325 m in altitude. The population is mainly found in Gracefield, a locality watered by the right bank of the Gatineau River, in Lac-Poisson-Blanc, in Wright, in Chénier and around numerous lakes, especially in the northwest. The person honored by this entity is Philemon Wright, born in Woburn (Massachusetts) in 1760 and died in 1839 in Hull, a city he founded with others in 1800, the same year of his immigration. This colonizer and businessman, involved in almost every aspect of the development of Hull and its region, even served as a militia officer, justice of the peace, and Ottawa's first member of the House of Assembly of Lower Canada. Situé à moins de 70 km au nord-nord-ouest de Hull, le canton de Wright est arrosé par la rivière Gatineau, qui le limite à l'est, et par de nombreux lacs portant entre autres les noms suivants : des Îles, Profond, Perreault, Paquin, du Castor Blanc. Ils s'étalent sur un territoire accidenté, varié et relativement peu élevé, qui ne dépasse pas 325 m d'altitude. La population se retrouve principalement à Gracefield, localité arrosée par la rive droite de la rivière Gatineau, à Lac-Poisson-Blanc, à Wright, à Chénier et autour de nombreux lacs, surtout au nord-ouest. Le personnage honoré par cette entité est Philemon Wright, né à Woburn (Massachusetts) en 1760 et décédé en 1839 à Hull, ville qu'il a fondée avec d'autres personnes en 1800, l'année même de son immigration. Ce colonisateur et homme d'affaires, engagé dans presque tous les aspects du développement de Hull et de sa région, a même été officier de milice, juge de paix et premier député d'Ottawa à la Chambre d'assemblée du Bas-Canada.
